This area is best known for birdwatching. Kotu Creek can be easily reached, situated in the vicinity of well-known hotels such as Bakotu Hotel, Kombo Beach Hotel, Palm Beach Hotel, among others. The area comprises two different habitats, with rice fields adjacent to the hotels. A leisurely two-hour walk around the area offers sightings of various bird species, including the African Spoonbill, Painted Snipe, Blue-Breasted Kingfisher, Giant Kingfisher, Blue-Bellied Roller, Little Bee-Eater, and Oriole Warbler.

Begin your day by visiting Lamin Lodge in the morning, embark on a boat for one or two hours of early birding, and return to the lodge for a delightful breakfast. Spanning over 6 square kilometers, the reserve encompasses diverse habitat types, including the beach, tidal lagoons, mangrove swamp, coastal scrub, and dry savanna woodland.
